PUB Aircon calculation

Have you wondering how much your electricity will cost you? is it very expensive to turn on the aircon every night? Do you know that current electricity tariff in Singapore is 27.28c/Kwh (Jul 2011)? what does this means?

ok...ok...i was the one who wondering as well, anyway i come out with simple calculation to know how much you should pay for each electricity equipment.
The simple calculation is: (Monthly bill = used Kwh x current tariff)

for example:
Let say your aircon has electricity consumption 800w and everyday you turned on the aircon for 10 hours. So with this situation your monthly bill for just an aircon is $65.47. How do i get this?
= 0.8kwh x 10hours x 30 days x 27.28c
= $65.47 

is it expensive???
You are still able to save some $$$ by controlling the temperature and set it to 23C or 25C degree. How much lower it will be?

If you set the temperature setting is 23C degree, you may reduce about 5% of the compressor's working load. By doing this you should reduce 5% of your monthly bill
= $65.47 - 5%
= $62.19

If you set the temperature setting is 25C degree, you may reduce about 10% of the compressor's working load. By doing this you should reduce 10% of your monthly bill

= $65.47 - 10%
= $58.92

How about if you are using inverter technology and how does this inverter works?
Let's assume you are still using 800w aircon and set the temperature at 25C degree
1st hour of usage - 800w
2nd hour of usage - 650w
3rd hour of usage  - 525w
4th hour of usage - 450w
5th hour of usage - 420w
6th hour of usage - 405w
7th hour of usage - 400w
8th hour of usage - 400w
9th hour of usage - 400w
10th hour and rest of usage - 400w
 The calculation for usage about 10 hours will be:

= 850 + 650 + 525 + 450 + 420 + 405 + 400 + 400 + 400+ 400
= 4900w/day
= 4.9kwh/day

The monthly bill for aircon inverter
= 4.9kwh x 30days x 27.28c
= $40.10

Have you now got an idea how your aircon's bill will be for this month onwards?
